reviewed: international 1100b
Trucks have evolved quite a lot over the past 30 years. As the durable square-bodied workhorses died off with the introduction of the 1994 Dodge Ram, automakers competed with each other to create more aerodynamic, luxurious trucks. In today's review, let's take a look at a vehicle that came far before the trucks of today; the 1967 International 1100B.
styling
The vehicle that we reviewed made it clear that it was a truck, with a no-frills exterior and three speed manual transmission. Ride quality is harsh, and the original 304 cubic inch V8 engine is sluggish, but does not lack power. Our vehicle was affixed with 3-inch chrome stacks and a custom interior, although the original is set to go back in.
driving
The International's leaf springs and non-assisted steering prove to be somewhat inconvenient on paper, but this truck is a blast to drive. To sit back and hear the 5 liter growl is quite an experience. Driving an antique car of any sort, while stressful, is something that everybody should experience. The truck is not very practical, achieving an average fuel economy rating of 9 miles per gallon and having an uncomfortable clutch, although it does have power brakes.
