reviewed: chevrolet aveo
Compact economy cars such as the Ford Fiesta and
the Hyundai Accent are growing in popularity. But in today's
review, we'll take a blast from the very near past, and take a look at the
recently discontinued Chevrolet Aveo.
The Aveo was a compact "econobox"
car built by Daewoo Motors, so it rolls off a production line in South Korea.
The stubby but equally cute car was powered by a throbbing inline-four that was
famous for timing belt issues. Regardless of everything, the little Aveo sold
well, and was face lifted in 2007. The Aveo's rear seats have a third seat
belt, making it a genuine five-seater. For people willing to spend a little
more money, the more luxurious model, the LS, came with upgraded seats, power
windows, and remote keyless entry. The Aveo's small but useful trunk featured
fold-down rear seats, which made the storage area big enough to house a push
lawnmower. Since it was built by Daewoo and not Chevrolet itself, some people
on the Chevrolet forum site called it a Chevoo! Because of its Korean build
materials, quality in the interior was something to be desired, and in 2011,
the Aveo was discontinued quietly. It was quickly replaced by the Daewoo built
Chevrolet Sonic. In Europe and Asia however, the Sonic still bears the Aveo
badge. The Chevrolet Spark was an even smaller counterpart to the Aveo/Sonic.
It is a rebadged Daewoo Matiz. For more information, visit www.chevrolet.com
