in the news: chrysler to discontinue town and country
Next year, many loyal owners will not only be sad, but heartbroken, as Chrysler is discontinuing the Mommy-Mobile of all Mommy-Mobiles. The Town & Country. Some called it a useless replacement for the good ol' station wagon, but many called it family. The Town & Country, alongside its identical twin, the Plymouth Grand Voyager, started a never-ending boom of a wagon mixed with a conversion van. The perfect mix of luxury and refinement and performance. And although over the years they got smaller and lower in quality, most people didn't care. In the 1990's, the Voyager was renamed the Caravan, and sold under the Dodge brand name. All along, it was overcome by cheaper imported minivans that created a spinoff of a spinoff, and started MPV's. Just what a company needs. A fat, noisy, slow box to compete with. But they held out for 30 years. And by 2014, only the more expensive, lower-selling Caravan will remain. And even though they are virtually identical, the Chrysler came first, and with it came one of those diseases that are actually good for you, a spot of pleasantness. But we're not here to discuss that. And if you have one of the doomed people-movers in your driveway, Chrysler said they will still make parts for the T&C, so you should be OK for a while. And if you envy the Town & Country, wave goodbye. A car dead. A legend born.
